Our History
Gunnell Farms is a 50 acre patch of land located in beautiful Cache Valley. Our peaceful farm sits west of Smithfield, Utah and is located near the head of Hopkins Spring. The Hopkins Slough runs through the farm making it a haven for waterfowl (especially ducks) and other wildlife. In 2009 the owner's realized their dream of homesteading on the land and it is now a haven for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well.
The farm has been in the family since the pioneers first settled Smithfield and was built on the values of tradition, hard work and persistence. The Gunnell children were taught these same values as they grew up working on the farm and for the family agricultural research business. We are now able to teach these same values to our children as they help with the chores at Gunnell Farms. They are learning that farm fresh is simply best.
The majority of the farm is still dedicated to traditional crops such as grains and alfalfa but over the years we have always grown our own produce too. We always had more pumpkins than we could use, and couldn't go without tasty potatoes even after the owner retired from the seed potato business.
Fast Forward to 2017 and the decision to grow a larger pumpkin patch and sell to the public. It did so well in 2018 we added potatoes to the mix. We have experimented with a few other things but now Gunnell Farms has a Fall Based Produce Stand and U-Pick Pumpkin Patch open to the Public each Fall. We sell gourmet Potatoes, and over 50 varieties of Pumpkins, Squash and Gourds. Come check us out this Fall at Gunnell Farms.
